January 20, 1993 in Tolochenaz, Switzerland) was an actress of British-Dutch origins. Her name was later changed to Edda Kathleen van Heemstra Hepburn-Ruston. She was one of the biggest female film stars of the 1950s and 1960s and was awarded an Oscar, an Emmy, two Tony Awards and a Grammy. This makes her one of the few artists to have won all four major prizes. She was ranked third among the greatest female film stars in a 1999 American Film Institute poll. In her later years she became involved as a special ambassador for UNICEF.
